Abstract
Because of its affordability and safety, metformin is a commonly used biguanide medication. Because of its exceptional capacity to lower plasma glucose levels, it has been used for more than 60 years to treat type 2 diabetes in its early stages. As metformin was used for more and more conditions, including aging and numerous diseases, its advantages came to light. Cancers (such as breast, endometrial, bone, colorectal, and melanoma), obesity, liver, cardiovascular, and renal illnesses are some of these conditions. Diverse signaling pathways allow metformin to exert its effects in different ways. The underlying mechanics of these many advantages still need to be clarified. This review's objectives are to briefly summarise the advantages of metformin and talk about potential underlying mechanisms.
